Len Aruliah – Sax
UK born and growing up in Vancouver, Len Aruliah still splits his time between the UK and Canada. After studying at the University of British Columbia, and then at the Banff Jazz Workshop with Kenny Wheeler and Hugh Fraser, he was active in the Vancouver and Montreal jazz scene through the nineties, often with long-term collaborator guitarist Jared Burrows. He then moved back to the UK in 1998, where he firmly established himself in London. A versatile musician he’s toured with Gene Pitney, played theatre in the West End, world music with the 4Seasons Band and Association of British Calypsonians, and featured with the riotous Hackney Colliery Band and the River City Stompers. As a composer, he has written and arranged music for artists such as Joy Ibisa, Solange, and the Mardi Brass quintet. He’s a powerfully lyrical saxophonist with a strong contemporary edge and writes and leads his own bands, releasing CDs, performing, and teaching on both sides of the Atlantic.
